How can kids fight hunger

Hunger is rampant in the United States and all around the world. Just in the US 1 in 5 children are at risk of hunger. But you can help, you are never too young, all you need is the desire to make a difference. Check out these ideas for things you can do to help fight hunger in your community and around the world.

Food Drives
  • Organize a food drive

  • Birthday drives: Instead of presents ask your friends and family to bring food to donate to the hunger relief organization of your choice
  • Start A Backpack Buddies Program at your school, don’t know if there is one in your area check here
  • Volunteer at a local food bank find one here
  • When planning something remember that shelters and food banks need things all year long, not just during the holidays. try to find out when they need the most help.
Plant a Garden

 

  • Plant your own garden and donate the food to a local homeless shelter or other hunger relief effort.

  • Go Orange for No Kid Hungry: Help raise awareness to the 1 in 5 kids who face hunger everyday by asking your classmates to all wear orange , the color of hunger awareness, on the same day.
  • Youth of all ages can tackle child hunger through generationOn’s “What Will You Bring to the Table?” initiative. The campaign will turn ideas and actions into 1 million meals for children facing food insecurity in the United States.
